Kathy discovered this match shake recipe by accident while blending a matcha shake, and realized she was out of ice! So she subbed some frozen watermelon and found this shake tasted better than ever! The pastel green color tricks you because the flavor is deliciously pure pink.

This shake has a sweet matcha flavor that is very pleasant. With the same texture as some of your favorite restaurant shakes, this matcha shake recipe is a tasty introduction of another super healthy ingredient, matcha! Serves: 2 - 12 ozs
Ingredients
  • 1 cup your favorite non-dairy milk substitute
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1½ cups frozen watermelon chunks (or more for a frostier shake)
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground chia seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Philosophie* Green Dream (optional)
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients into the blender in the order listed and secure lid.
  2. For Blendtec: Press the SMOOTHIE button. Stop machine when you reach a frosty consistency you like!
  3. For Vitamix: Start on VARIABLE Speed 1. Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to VARIABLE Speed 10/HIGH or use the SMOOTHIE setting. Blend for 45 seconds or until desired consistency is reached.

    unfortunately i have never tried matcha yet! but i would love to try it! sometimes i thought about buying a cup of matcha powder but then i did not because it is so expensive. but i thought about going to an japanese cafe or something and buy a matcha latte!!

    I’ve never tried Matcha, but I’ve always wanted to! It’s so hard to find around my area, and I’ve been hesitant to buy online because I don’t know how it tastes. But this smoothie sounds amazing–I LOVE watermelon and am so glad it’s finally getting closer to being in season!

    I have tried Matcha before, and have some in the cupboard, but find I can’t drink it after lunch, or it keeps me awake at night. or is that my imagination??? :)

    Yes, I use matcha powder. But, is it ceremonial grade… no! So, the quality is not so much! Love to try some “real” matcha.” I hear it’s super smooth. ;)

    I have purchased (very expensive) and tried matcha powder, but I haven’t yet found a way to use it that I really care for. I have tried stirring it into warm beverages, but it gets very clumpy, and when the clumps are in my mouth they break open and I get a VERY strong tea leaf taste. Not sure what to do! ??

      Hmmm… We are new with Matcha ourselves! Definitely try it in this smoothie recipe! Also good matcha recipes, there’s TONS of great ones out there. I’m sure you can find some delicious ways to indulge (and use up!) that Matcha Robin! :)

    I love matcha! When traveling abroad, I try to avoid US chains, but when I was in Tokyo, Starbucks did a matcha version of the frappuccino. I couldn’t stop drinking them!

    I absolutely LOVE matcha and have tried it many times before because I lived in HK for 10 years and Thailand for 8. I think it is a great addition to almost anything; smoothies, ‘nicecreams’ and etc.
