ROOTZ NUTRITION REVIEW: Paleo Protein and Energy Superfoods Powders

With delicious smoothie recipes often taking center stage here at Blender Babes, I am often asked to weigh in with my recommendations for high-quality protein powders.

And I get why this is a subject that's so important to this community.

First, if there's one area in the healthy living marketplace (besides power blenders) where there are a bevy of choices, it's protein powders.

Second, having a really good and tasty protein powder supplement in your bag of healthy goodies is essential.

You don't have to be an aspiring bodybuilder OR a workout fanatic to want the benefits that a good protein powder can provide.

Benefits of a Protein Powder - "Whey" Or No Way

Combined with regular exercise, protein powder supplements can help you:

  • build lean muscle (which is integral to burning fat)
  • strengthen your immune system
  • repair damaged cells/tissues
  • provide you with a much-needed energy boost when you're regularly on-the-go

As many of you may have experienced when shopping for protein powders, there are plenty out there that contain whey.

Blendtec vs Vitamix Review

Full disclosure:  it's a "no way" on whey protein powders for me.

Powdered whey is a highly processed form of protein that used to be thrown away until manufacturers discovered it could be packaged and sold.

Plus, whey can seriously mess with your gut flora causing digestive issues such as bloating, gas, loose stools and acne. Yikes!

Whether or not you have dairy or lactose issues, consuming a whey-based protein powder can make your life insufferable for a few hours.

Finding a dairy-free protein powder that's full of REAL, whole food ingredients can be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

So I was thrilled when I heard about a protein powder consisting of a powerful trifecta: protein + superfoods + greens.

It's called Rootz Nutrition and let me tell you...I am super impressed!

As you can tell by now, I take being a resource for blending, smoothies and healthier living quite seriously.

In fact, I am always on the lookout for new products that can help me, my family and my tribe all stay on the path toward optimal wellness.

But when it comes to protein powders, my standards are up there. #proteinpowdersnob

I require that my protein powder consist of high-quality ingredients, contain MORE than just protein AND is great tasting!

Tarashaun's Green Blender TipsHead Blender Babe

  • I have tried at least one hundred protein powders, and although I listed taste last of the 3 requirements: it's actually #1 for me! However finding one that tastes great, includes superfoods and isn't full of JUNK is really, REALLY hard to find!

Considering there are oodles of protein powders on the market, it's rare to find a company that can meet all three of my requirements but Rootz Nutrition surpassed my expectations!

Rootz Paleo Protein and Energizing Superfood Powders

In addition to being whole and superfoods-filled, Rootz Nutrition offers powders that are "paleo-approved" which is another element that is TOTALLY hard to find.

BTW...you don't have to follow the paleo diet/lifestyle to enjoy the powders that Rootz Nutrition has available.

Rootz currently has two powders for purchase -- the Paleo Energizing Superfood and the Paleo Protein Superfood.

SIDE NOTE: The Rootz Nutrition protein contains egg whites so it is not suitable for vegans.

Rootz Paleo Energizing Superfood

Deemed the "pre-workout" powder, Rootz's Paleo Energizing Superfood is perfect for you if you're prone to doing high-intensity workouts OR you need an all-natural and sustainable energy booster.

What's cool about this powder is that not only does it come in a delicious raspberry lemon flavor, but it's also made up of four different blends that give the body a healthy, wholesome jolt of energy for a workout OR any time during the day when you're lagging (about 3pm for me!).

Here are the four blends and the ingredients that make up the Rootz Paleo Energizing Superfood Powder:

  • Energy and Strength Blend - Yerba Mate Extract, Guarana, Tongkat Ali Root, Rhodiola, Schiandra Berry, Asian Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba
  • Metabolism Stimulation Blend - Raspberry, Lemon, Matcha Green Tea, Yohimbe Bark
  • Vascularity (for those workout fiends or body builders who like their veins to be seen prominently on their skin) and Anti-Inflammation Blend - Beetroot, Turmeric, Ginger, Devil's Claw, Cinnamon
  • Superfood Blend - Goji Berry, Blueberry, Acai, Maca Root, Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly

Though the pre-workout Paleo Energizing Superfood powder does not contain any grams of protein, there's plenty of vitamins, minerals and wholefoods nutrition to stoke your energy levels.

You'll definitely be able to give it all you got at the gym or have enough energy to tackle a busy day.

Rootz Paleo Protein Powder Plus Superfoods

There's a reason why Rootz calls this their "post workout" protein powder.

It's chockfull of protein and all-natural nutrition that will replenish your body after an intense workout.

Even if you're not pounding the pavement/treadmill or lifting heavy weights, this is a great protein powder that also works well as a meal replacement option.

The Rootz Paleo Protein Superfood powder is actually what I have been using pretty regularly since discovering Rootz Nutrition.

I also love the Chocolate Banana and nut flavor!

It's NOT super chocolately so I've used it in my berry smoothies and green smoothies in addition to chocolate flavored smoothies.

I like that it is a complete protein source that contains some of my favorite superfoods and, of course, those all-too important greens we all need.

It's also quite versatile and works well in baked goodies.

Check out these tasty recipes using the Paleo Protein Superfood Powder:

Like its "pre-workout" counterpart, the Paleo Protein Superfood powder also is made up of four fantastic blends that pack the protein and superfoods:

  • Protein Blend - Egg White Protein, Sacha Inchi Protein, Hemp Protein
  • Electrolyte Blend - Coconut, Banana
  • Superfood Blend - Chia Seeds, Flax Seeds, Maca Root, Bee Pollen, Acai, Goji Berries, Blueberries, Royal Jelly
  • Green Detox Blend - Spirulina, Chlorella, Kale, Spinach, Broccoli

And if you're prone to counting your protein grams per meal, one scoop of the Paleo Protein Superfood powder contains 14 grams!

Not Plant-Based But All-Natural

Another thing I like about Rootz Nutrition's powders is that they're organic AND free of: artificial ingredients, GMOs, coloring, gluten, dairy and soy.

As I began to look more into the company, what impressed me (and this is adding on to what's already cool about their products) is the philosophy for the brand.

Harrison, the founder of Rootz Nutrition, says - "We believe that what is left OUT of our products is just as important as what goes IN."

Final Thoughts

Rootz Nutrition really offers two complimentary powders that you can easily incorporate into your lifestyle.

If you're following the Paleo diet (or not)....stepping up your workout game...want something to put in your smoothies to help you sustain energy OR just in need of a top-notch protein powder...

Rootz Nutrition gets a THUMBS UP from me.

    1. Hi Alica! I am so glad you found us! Its always been a dream of mine to help people and provide them with honest information! Thanks for joining. (:

  1. I like drinking protein smoothies post-workout, which sometimes means breakfast as well, depending on when I work out! Sometimes I like tinkering with protein bar/ball recipes, although I’ve yet to find a keeper recipe for those.

  2. I drink protein smoothies any time of day depending on my dietary needs. I always have a post workout protein drink with carbs, and before bed a casein shake. MRPs I drink occasionally in the morning if I don’t have time to make a full breakfast. And I snack between meals on things like veggies & nuts for an energy boost.

  3. I drink a smoothie in the morning as a meal replacement. I love chocolate or chocolate mint. I add avocado for good fat & creaminess!

  4. I find that protein smoothies are best in the morning, to replace breakfast. I have more energy and feel better when I do!

  5. I drink my protein shakes at various times! Sometimes they are my breakfast, sometimes they are a post-workout snack. If it’s a hot day and I am feeling like keeping it light, I’ll have one for lunch. Anytime is a good time for a smoothie!

  6. I sometimes replace breakfat with a protein smoothie since I do not usually like to eat first thing in the morning.

  7. I’ve heard so many great things about Rootz products! It’s so hard to find paleo friendly supplements. Can’t wait to try them out! 🙂

  8. Jasmine Nguyen

My mom has been having health issues so I would love to give this to her so she could make healthy drinks!

  9. I use protein powder in shakes and make my own snacks. I have a protein deficiency, so it’s vital I have my twice daily supplements. This giveaway is amazing!

  10. Love the diversity of the things you present. A great choice. Will check these new products. I add protein mostly in the morning or to replace a meal.

    1. Blender Babe Jassmine

That’s perfect, Johanne! Adding protein helps to keep you full longer, which is perfect for breakfast.

Wonderful, thanks for sharing. I love taking smoothies before and or after workouts as well. 🙂

  11. Alicia Hewitt

I drink protein smoothies for many reasons. The biggest reason is for meal replacement, but I also drink them for snack sometimes.

  12. I like having protein shakes right after a heavy lifting workout. My favourite is almond milk, blueberries, banana, protein powder, spinach and peanut butter or flax.

  13. I did smoothies every day till keto began. Now I am limited as I don’t do any fruit sugars or artificial sweeteners, or soy. Protein powders are extremely hard to find in this range!

  14. Part of my New Years resolution is to eat healthier. Really want to try some different smoothies . Could use a new blender .

  15. I will make smoothies for my breakfast. It’s easy to take in my hand as I drive to work! I usually don’t add protein to my smoothies but I think I am going to begin doing that. My son always does add protein to his smoothies.

  16. I like starting my day with a protein smoothie. I like to add organic chia seeds, almond milk, and a handful or two of berries or fruit. It keeps me going until lunch!

  17. I drink smoothies every morning and finally got my husband started on them too. It has made a positive difference in his health.

    1. Good Job, Sarahferg! You’re doing your husband a huge favor. I’m sure he appreciates it. Good luck in your health journey!

  18. This protein looks amazing! I have been looking for a protein powder that fits my needs and this may be it! I use protein shakes when i want a meal replacement or when i feel like i haven’t been eating as well as i should. Thank you for sharing!

  19. Hoping Rootz comes up with more flavors than just the two–and that they’ll consider one that’s not sweetened–even with Stevia.

In making smoothies, I’ve found a lot of protein powders don’t get the Stevia levels right, and I wind up with a cloyingly-sweet smoothie. The fruit one uses is already sweet–using more sweetener just seems overkill. And sadly, I can’t have banana. 🙁

If anyone’s already used this, let me know what the sweetness factor is, please!

    1. Hey girl! I tend to only use about 2 tablespoons of any protein powder vs their scoop it comes with – do didn’t find Rootz overly sweet. They do have a 100% money back guarantee to try it which is helpful and have smaller packs on their website than the tub which might be better to test it. I hope they come up with more flavors too! Although I have used this with fruity smoothies because it’s NOT super chocolately despite the name. 🙂

    1. Agreed! When I make a smoothie snack I don’t use the whole scoop of protein though, just a tablespoon or two. Helps it last longer as well! 🙂

HIIII I just ordered some ROOTZ, looking forward to getting it in the mail. I am doing a heavier plant based, non dairy version of keto, mostly lower carb, but now that we are heading into summer I’m going to be all about the smoothies. 🙂 . Doing well, checking out your lovely website for more recipes 😀
