DR FUHRMAN’S CHOCOLATE GREEN SMOOTHIE RECIPE
Dr. Fuhrman makes a seriously yummy green smoothie – there are few forces of nature that can compete with chocolate and this smoothie doubles to fulfill the craving.
Dr. Fuhrman adds spinach to assure that you get a bigger powerhouse of nutrients, but any greens will work.
Chocolate smoothie recipes are a great way to mix nutrient dense ingredients and chocolate into a swirling combination of chocolatey-goodness.
Make sure to use raw cacao, not the processed/sweetened stuff.
We like to grind our flaxseeds fresh in small batches and add, but you can just add whole flax seeds if you have a good power blender.

HEALTH BENEFITSÂ OF DARK CHOCOLATE AND SPINACH
Dark Chocolate increases blood flow to the brain as well as to the heart, so it can help improve cognitive function.
It also helps reduce risk of stroke.
Dark chocolate contains several chemical compounds that have a positive effect on your mood and cognitive health.
One is phenylethylamine (PEA), the same chemical your brain creates when you feel like you’re falling in love.
PEA encourages your brain to release endorphins, so eating dark chocolate will make you feel happier.
Spinach is a powerhouse of nutrition rich in many vitamins and nutrients.
Experts have identified at least thirteen different compounds in spinach that provide antioxidant and/or anti-cancer benefits.
Spinach rich in calcium and magnesium, helps prevent osteoporosis.

Spinach contains vitamin E, which helps slow mental decline and memory loss.
Chocolate…yumm!
Umm obviously I love that it has chocolate!!
There’s no way this has 1360 calories, can you recaculate it?
Thanks for the heads up, Lulu! We’ve just begun adding nutritional information to our recipes. I’ve corrected it – much better at only around 250 calories! Happy Blending 🙂
Yep absolutely! We always say, use what you got 😉 Depending on the type of blender you have, you could just grind the nibs into powder as well. HAPPY BLENDING!
Can I use cacoa nibs instead of powder (if that's what I happen to already have a lot of)?
Mine turned into a gelatinous lump after about 30 minutes. What did I do wrong? Since it makes two servings I wanted to save the second serving.
Hi Cathy and WELCOME to Blender Babes! If you’re going to let it sit or freeze it for a later date, you’ll definitely want to re-blend it just to loosen everything back up. When you let it sit, all of those yummy sugars get stuck together and will make it more like a pudding, so re-blending it or putting it in a Blender Bottle and shaking it up will help! To save it for the next day, I’d definitely recommend freezing it into ice cubes and then re-blending with a little bit of liquid. Happy Blending!
It's sweet and berry-tangy….yum! The blueberries and cacoa are both packed with powerful antioxidants for great health!
Tasted great but seemed less filling
I really like it. Power packed!
Did mine with all soy milk (no juice) and a half spinach/kale mix. Think it would have been better to follow the recipe as is. Regardless, it was good. 🙂
I really liked this smoothie because it has the chocolate flavor but its not overwhelming. You definitely still have a berry smoothie. We used a coffee grinder to blend up cacao nibs 🙂
Loved it! Going to make again this afternoon and see what I did wrong….but it was a nice change
Thanks for the comment Myra and WELCOME to Blender Babes! Do you mean the ingredients or ?
I don't know the recipe for the drink but it is work getting..
i’m absolutely addicted to this smoothie and while this recipe is perfect as is, 1/2 cup acai juice makes a really yummy substitution for the pomegranate 🙂
Thanks Caly! We love Acai juice too! Bet it’s tasty. We also swap out pomegranate for the Acai juice in our Red Cabbage Cancer Fighting Smoothie, you might love this one too! 🙂
