The Total Blender – Where Blendtec’s High-Powered Blending Dominance Began
Tom Dickson is the prolific inventor behind Blendtec. Striving to help people improve their health and lead much more fulfilling lives, he developed one of the world’s most incredibly powerful, most technologically-advanced blenders—which he aptly named The Blendtec Total Blender!
And with his brilliance extending into marketing as well, Tom sold this impressive machine to the world with his wildly entertaining and highly successful “Will It Blend?” YouTube videos, which in the early days featured The Blendtec Total Blender Classic pulverizing everything from pool cues, rake handles, baseballs, golf balls and hockey pucks to marbles, magnets, lightbulbs, glowsticks and more—turning ‘em all into dust!
These unique videos rapidly went viral and took the high-powered blending world by storm. The Blendtec Total Blender gained so much popularity in such a short amount of time that it was even featured on Ellen, the View, WGN and the BBC—totally decimating everything tossed into its jar; wowing audiences all around the world… This successful marketing campaign continues to this day, and now features several of Blendtec’s latest models destroying basically anything you can imagine!
Now largely considered the best blender for smoothies, people everywhere use these innovative machines in their homes, and it really all started with The Total Blender Classic—which is where Blendtec’s high-powered blending dominance began! Now for this Blendtec Classic Review let’s meet the Classic Series…

Blendtec Classic 570 – A Costco Exclusive Model
The Blendtec Classic 570 is similar to the other Classic models.
Here are the differences in a nutshell. It’s the lowest level model Blendtec makes with the fewest features (now that the 560 is discontinued).
It has 2 pre-programmed settings: SMOOTHIE and HOT and 3 manual speeds (low, medium and high).
It has the same body style as the Classic 575 but NOT the color options or as many automatic settings or manual speeds.
IMPORTANT CLASSIC 570 NOTE: The Classic 570 can only be purchased AT COSTCO . For less money and way more features, I recommend the Total Blender Classic Blendtec Refurbished OR the refurbished Blendtec Classic 575.
Blendtec Classic 570 Features:
- 3-Peak Horsepower 1,570-Watt Motor – This commercial-grade motor gives you all the raw thunderous power you’ll need to create any recipe you want!
- 2 Preprogrammed Cycles – Smoothie & Hot— the two One-Touch pre-programmed buttons (smoothie & soup).
- 3 Manual Speeds, Pulse Control & STOP– The Classic 570 utilizes Low, Medium & High speeds with bursts of high-powered pulsing capability. Note: The Blendtec recipe books were made for lots of pre-programmed settings like the Original Total Blender Classic and all Designer models have.
- Wildside+ Jar w/Vented Gripper Lid – Only available with the Wildside+ Jar.
Commercial Quality Construction w/Molded Plastic Finish Available in Black & Red – IMPORTANT COSTCO COLOR CHOICE NOTE: You can buy the Blendtech 570 in Black or Red when purchasing it directly from a Costco location, depending on what they have available.
- Blendtec Classic 570 Motor Base, Smart-Touch Interface & Illuminated LCD Timer – Same design as the Classic 575.
- 7” Wide x 15” Tall x 8” Deep w/Total Weight of 7.28 lbs. – Same size as other Classics
- Durable Metal Drive Socket & Blunt Safety Blade – Same as all Blendtec models.
- Comprehensive 8-Year Warranty on Everything in the Box – Like all new Blendtec blenders.
Blendtec Classic 560 – THIS BLENDER HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED
Blendtec’s Classic 560 has been discontinued and is no longer for sale.
The Blendtec Classic 560 had the fewest features available on any Blendtec.
Blendtec Classic 560 Features:
4 Manual Speeds, Pulse Control & STOP – Low, Medium-Low, Medium-High & High along with pulse and stop button.
In order to use the Blendtec recipe books, which were made for lots of pre-programmed settings like the Original Total Blender Classic and all Designer models have, it is a bit more difficult to make certain recipes.

I feel like I wasted my money buying a blendtec blender. I had all kinds of problems with the blender and their blender jars. They are very expensive and you expect to get what you paid for but with my blendtec I feel like I did nothing but throw away allot of money.
I’m sorry to hear you had issues with your Blendtec! Sounds like you maybe had a lemon. I hope you were able to return your blender and get something you like better! Thanks for sharing your feedback. ~Tarashaun
hi.i want a blender that isnt really digital or automatic.i want ot make ice cream butters etc and mostly grind grains.what do you suggest?vitamix or blendtec?blendtec i see when it grinds it gets foggy and vitamix needs the tamper.also in both i need to get a dry blade or fourside jar so second jar is a must i guess but i am confused with the models…we are family of 2 so i dont need large quantities…36 or 48oz is good i guess.but all these models…..any help which will perform better for superfine flour, smoothies and so on?
Hi Misty! For both blenders, when grinding grains it will pit the jar and make it cloudy, however Blendtec jars can blend hot, wet, cold and dry goods all in the same jar with the same blade (no separate jar/blade is needed), so you can use the wildside jar that it comes with. The wildside jar is perfect for a family of 2, you do not need to fill it to the top but you have the option to make more as needed. Both perform very well and considered the best blenders for smoothies, as well as being able to make superfine flour. The Vitamix does offer a special dry goods jar with a different blade – but it’s an expensive additional cost that might be not be necessary unless you plan to grind grains a lot. You can learn more about this dry grinding comparison here. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any further questions!
Thanks for the prompt reply. Yes, I am referring to the Total blender Classic original (discontinued by blendtec). It is still available at Costco.
Is it a good idea to purchase discontinued original total blender vs. the newer Blendtec classic 575?
Which one would you recommend? Total blender original definitely has more features.. but i am not sure why it was discontinued and if newer classic is any way better.. Thank you.
Archie
Thanks for the detailed comparison.. Would you recommend to buy new Blendtec Total Blender (still available at Costco) vs. the classic 575? I am torn between the two.
Originally, I was looking at the Vitamix 5200 super package but the sharp blade and large jar made me choose blendtec.. Plus, I want it for smaller servings. I have used a blendtec before and it is very easy to clean. Please let me know your recommendation. The other blendtec models at Costco don’t seem that good. (designer 600 and Pro 750).
Thanks.
Archie
Hey Archie! Great question. The Blendtec Classic 575 has more features than the Classic blender sold at costco. The costco version has only a few settings. The Blendtec Total Blender Classic original however has more features than all of the newer Blendtec classic models. It is more on par with the higher Blendtec Designer Series in terms of features (more automatic settings and manual controls). I love the Designer Series look and feel but again, the Designer 600 sold at Costco has the fewest features than the other Designer series blenders (Designer 625, 675 and 725). They made these blenders specifically for Costco and to keep the price down took away all the great automatic and manual settings. If you wish to make small servings, I highly recommend getting the Blendtec Twister Jar – you get $20 off as part of our free gifts offer. Although purchased separately it will also include free shipping. 🙂

Have you written a Blendtec Pro 750 review against the other models. I couldn’t find one here, but I may have missed it.
Hey Hile! We have done a Blendtec Pro 725 (I always call it 750 too!! ha!) and compared its features to other Blendtec designer blenders in this review here. We also compared the Blendtec 725 vs Vitamix 780 here.
Thank you. I’ll check it out.
Actually I just checked your review. It isn’t the high end of designer series. It is actually called Pro 750. Costco has it listed that way, amazon too, and the Blendtec site does as well. It looks different. It is not touchscreen, buttons on top and the on/off button in the front. I was wondering if it is an older modeland how it compared to the rest. http://www.blendtec.com/blenders/professional-750
Do you ship to Canada?
How much it could costs?

One of the great things about their blenders its he jars are all interchangeable. 🙂 Thanks so much for your purchase! Make sure to forward your purchase confirmation email to freegift@blenderbabes.com to receive your free gifts!
Do you have any refurbished classic models that have the sound shroud? I used one in my coffee shop when I was making smoothies and lattes; I have since sold my shop and hence sold my blender.
Miss it alot!
Hi Jean! I believe you can buy sound enclosures separately, but through a dealer. :-/ We only sell what Blendtec sells on their website and this is currently unavailable. Sorry, wish we could help more!

This is so good to know!
Oh how I’ve wanted one of these fancy blenders for quite some time! I love to eat clean & healthy but what a world of difference this would make in allowing me to switch things up and start to get creative in the kitchen! My basic blend & small food processor just doesn’t cut it. With that said, looks like the Classic Series Original makes the most sense for me for I would take whatever I’d be lucky enough to get 🙂

Classic 575 in black
After reading through I’m not 100% sure I know if the 575 or the refurbished is best ?? But I’d love one that we could make our own nut butters as well as flours and smoothies. I love the black 🙂
The refurbished Blendtec Classic Original has more features than the new Blendtec 575. The Classic Original will come in LIKE NEW condition, however for people who prefer BRAND NEW stuff only, the Classic 575 has more feature than the 570 or 560. ALL the Blendtec blenders can make nut butters, flours, and smoothies, it’s just a matter of which buttons to press, how long, etc. 🙂 Good luck Jodi!
Classic 570 in Red
Total Blender Classic in stainless color – because it can blend pretty much anything. But, it would have to be brand new. I have issues with refurbs. 😛
The Blendtec 575 seems so powerful that it can handle anything! The red color is lovely!
I would love the 575 in red!
I would go for the 575 model in white.
Oh wow the white is beautiful! I’d love to have the white in any model!
Still sticking with a Vitamix, although winning one of these would be nice 😛
I’d choose the Blendtec Classic 575 in either black or the light blue 🙂 perfect for making my smoothies & juices!
Agreed! It’s definitely the best blender for smoothies! Good luck Mary!
I would like a green one if they make it.
…but I guess the electric blue is close enough.
I would like to have Total Blendtec classic with twister jar.
