KIMBERLY SNYDER’S GLOWING GREEN SMOOTHIE
This is one of our FAVORITE go to green smoothie recipes of all time. Kimberly Snyder is a highly sought after nutritionist and for many of the entertainment industry’s top celebrities, and author of The Beauty Detox Solution.
Kimberly’s first book was published in 2011 and has drawn praise from celebrities and experts including Dr. Mehmet Oz, Drew Barrymore, Fergie, LeAnn Rimes, Josh Duhamel, Hilary Duff, Olivia Wilde, Channing Tatum, Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn, Jillian Barberie, Tom Hiddleston, Abigail Spencer, Kevin James, Chris Hemsworth, Owen Wilson, and of course, Blender Babes!
We love Kimberly Snyder and have featured many of her Beauty Detox recipes in addition to Kimberly Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie in our celebrity recipe section.
This Glowing Green Smoothie (aka GGS) could be a daily staple. It features lots of greens, and fruit to help balance that “green” taste. The lemon gives cleansing benefits in addition to the greens. Mix and match greens with fruit to your liking, or what produce you must use up! Ideally it’s 2 types of greens with 2-3 types of fruits plus lemon.
I personally don’t like celery in it (too strong of a flavor for me), so I leave it out. If I’m trying to detox, I’ll add some parsley or cilantro, or both and use more banana or even some dates to sweeten it up.
I love mixing up the greens & fruit, and sometimes using coconut water instead of filtered water. 🙂
The beautiful thing about the GGS is the idea is to drink a quart or so of green smoothie per day to easily get more than the daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables!
If you don’t have a Blendtec or Vitamix or other high powered blender don’t fret, you can still make the Glowing Green Smoothie!
Just follow our tips on making green smoothies with a “regular” blender.

Nutrition
HEALTH BENEFITS OF ROMAINE AND SPINACH
Romaine: Just 1 cup of romaine lettuce meets the entire daily requirement of vitamin A, which works with vitamin C to create beautiful skin and prevent high cholesterol.
Spinach: Experts have identified at least thirteen different flavonoid compounds in spinach that provide antioxidant and/or anti-cancer benefits. These substances, along with other nutrients, offer a variety of healthy reasons to eat spinach – OFTEN!
Green apple or red apple
I don’t think it matters Skylar, use what you have or that’s the tastiest in season! 🙂
Before I make this, I have a blendtec (fabulous) but won’t the soup button make this smoothie hot?
Hi, Chandra! Great question. The Soup setting is perfect for smoothies when you don’t let it blend as long as you would for soup. The soup gets hot, the longer you let it blend. This should be fine for shorter intervals for smoothies.
Thanks, and Happy Blending XOXO
Can we add carrot as well in GGS?
Hi, Sunita!
Adding carrot will definitely change the texture and the taste. However, if it’s one of your favorite ingredients, go for it. Try it out and see if it’s better for you. Feel free to alter this recipe to make it your own. 🙂 Thanks!
I just don’t see any of the female celebs mentioned to look in great shape. Maybe they only ever did the program once. Kimberly Snyder is the only one who looks in good shape probably because she lives by the program long term.
Love how much better I feel after just one week of drink the glowing been smoothie
The results are almost instant. If you’re really looking for results, I recommend the 7-day blender cleanse. Not only will you shed a few pounds, but you’ll also remove harmful toxins in your body allowing you to get a kickstart on your health journey.
Hi and thanks for the health. . What about baby spinach instead of regular? Which has the most vitamins? I love this recipe! It has the perfect balance of fresh green with sweet!
Hi Ruth! Either type of spinach will work and they typically have equal amounts of nutrients and vitamins 🙂 HAPPY BLENDING! XOXO
Ok I must have done something wrong because this is the only smoothie from week one that I couldn’t even drink. I’ve loved 1-4. I might try it again – maybe I used too large of a head of romaine?
Otherwise – I have LOVED the other recipes and look forward to week 2! Thank you so much for the free download – it is giving me so many great recipes for my vitamin!!
that should be vitamix!
Please send me the green smoothie receipe. I’m from south africa and I’m in a area that so polluted and need help**thank you
Hello Marina! You can print the recipe from the post or copy it down. Please let us know how you like it!
Kimberly’s recipe in her book calls for “1/2 head large bunch or 3/4 small bunch organic spinach”, not 1 cup as shown here. This would be much more palatable for people complaining of too much celery taste here!
Hi Shaun,
I’ll look into the original recipe again! Thanks for the heads up. I have a question though… how would reducing the amount of spinach change the celery taste?
Happy Blending!!
The GGS is the best smoothie in the world! Not only did I lose weight but it gave me glow you get when you are in love. So many men and women have asked for the recipe that I have lost count. My son was having tummy problems for months so I decided to give him the GGS as well. No more tummy pain. We are addicted to the smoothie. God bless you Kimberly.
Super filling and refreshing!
The original!!! A 10 from me
Def a great go to green smoothie.
Yummy! Very green and refreshing
Super yummy! Very green tasting and refreshing
I would rate this one a 10! I think it is my favorite so far, it had so many veggies yet it didn't taste too green and because of the pear and apple I blended it twice to make it extra smooth. I made a lot so I had some for breakfast and I'll some for dinner.
I enjoyed it very much!! yummy!
The texture was unpleasant but it tasted ok. I don’t think I’ll make it again.
not sure where the other person’s name came from…but here is my review…sorry for a second post it’s not my fave but not bad either. Mine was super thick and VERY green haha. the toddler gobbled it up as usual. It makes A TON and VERY VERY filling
it’s not my fave but not bad either. Mine was super thick and VERY green haha. the toddler gobbled it up as usual. It makes A TON and VERY VERY filling
This is one of the first one’s that I have tried and it was very good
I would rate this 10 out of 10. It was really delicious and I could really taste the lemon. I didn't like the texture at first but once I got used to it, I loved it!
I liked this one because it makes so much, you will not go hungry! Its right in the middle between too sweet and too veggie in taste. But I liked it because of the amount of water, my thirst was quenched til lunch.
This smoothie was very good and it makes a lot. Next time I'll leave out the celery though because I could taste it too much and I don't like celery!
I love this one! I used to make it everyday.
This was ok. Kind of like a great base to improve on. I will tinker with it until I get it to where I like it. Maybe scale back the lemon and add a different fruit juice or more apple or pear.
I love this! I only use 2 celery stalks to limit this flavor. I add an orange sometimes and it's great!
I didn’t include the pear bc I didn’t want it to be so sweet from the apple and banana! Also added kale to mix things up. Definitely a winning green smoothie!
It was good if you like it green! My first time blending Romaine lettuce. I didn't have pear so I added pineapple. Reminded me a lot of the lunch one from the Dr. Oz 3 Day cleanse. It was also huge and therefore very filling. I give it an 8 🙂
it is definitely green! lol. it wasn't a bad taste but not as sweet as i'd like. I added a mango because it's what I had and it was slightly better. looking for a sweetner to add to it.
I didn’t see the ice addition in my ebook recipe but had used a frozen banana anyhow. This wasn’t a favorite but its not bad. It thickened a bit much until I arrived at work but I’m sipping on it all morning! Had enough to refrigerate another mason jar of it which I’ll have tomorrow since there’s no day 7 in the recipes.
This is one of my all time favorite smoothies!
This was delicious!!! I’ve become a big fan of juicing and this will be added to my rotation. My store didn’t have ripe bananas so I substituted an orange. I look forward to making with banana next time.
So glad you liked it!! 🙂
I just tried this last night and replaced banana with 6 strawberries. I also added 2 tbs chia seeds, 1 tbs of acai powder and 1 tbs of honey. it is delicious. I was able to make 4-5 cups out of it and while I had a glassful last night and another one this morning before leaving for work, I still have another glass ready for either tonight or tomorrow morning 🙂
I am on a Paleo diet and this smoothie is perfect!!!
Sounds so yummy, Joyce! As a Paleo person, what kind of recipes do you look for? We are working on having as many lifestyles covered and don’t have any Paleo people on staff. So glad you enjoyed this one! 🙂
Really good.. I love love love my green smoothies. I change this up and sometimes make it with cucumber, and add an avocado in place of the banana.
I have a ninja blender, so mine came out very thick. Did anyone else’s come out really thick? Maybe I added too much romaine. It’s ok. The taste is ok. I taste mostly the celery.
If it’s too thick, just add more liquid and blend it longer! If it gets warm you may want to add ice as well. If you don’t like the dominating flavor of the celery, make sure to use a green apple or some extra citrus or banana to cut the flavor a bit, or just cut the celery to one stalk. 🙂 Happy blending!
5 star the best.
I really love this one also, it is a staple in my regiment of smoothies soo good and easy to make when I just dont know what to put together I go to this one so filling, thank you for this recipe I can actually make this one everyday.. 🙂 love it.
Love it!! i’m getting my friends to also try it
5 out of 5!
great recipe Im going to start drinking it and Ill let you know about the results. are you sure that I will lose weight? Im desperate.
Hello Stavroulla! Most people who replace one meal per day with Kimberly Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie do experience some weight loss. It’s important to drink plenty of filtered water and Kim also recommends taking Mag O7 to help the body detox. If you haven’t read her book The Beauty Detox Solution, you might want to take a look at that as well! 🙂 KEEP US POSTED! xoxo ~Blender Babes
Hign can you let me know what is the best and worst fruits to use
Hello Caroline and WELCOME to BB 🙂 There really are no bad fruits to use. You get to experiment with what suits your taste buds. You just usually want to stick with 2-3 fruits and not many different kinds. I personally love apple, frozen banana and pineapple, it makes it extra thick and tasty! 🙂 Let me know what you try! 🙂 ~Blender Babe Tarashaun
Hi can you freeze the greens and when your ready put the frozen greens in blender with rest of recipe and blend?
Hi Jerry and WELCOME!! Absolutely. I have never frozen my greens but I have had community members use frozen spinach before and said it gave it a thicker texture the way frozen fruit does! If you have a high powered blender should be no problem at all. 🙂 HAPPY BLENDING!!
is there a meal plan I have to follow or just stay away from sugar ?
I am wondering do you loss weight on green shake ? and it makes 5 cups hoe much should I drink a day to do weight loss ?
Hello Barb and WELCOME to Blender Babes! 🙂 Yes you can absolutely lose weight by drinking green smoothie shakes – especially when you replace one meal a day with it. Most people drink between 16 and 32oz of green smoothie per day, so you can drink as much as you can and work your way up – freeze the rest and thaw the night before you need to rush out the door. We like to use mason jars for this. 🙂 HAPPY BLENDING!! xo
Sorry, I didnt spell check, I meant for a later time.
This recipe calls for 5-6 cups, if we store in the refigerator will it still have the same nutritional value if we saved some for a leter time.
Hi Cynthia! Yes you can store your green smoothie in the fridge for up to a day and it should retain most of it’s nutritional value. You can also freeze your leftovers in a mason jar and what I like to do is pull it out the night before to thaw for a morning I need to run out the door. 🙂 Happy Blending!
Hi,
In her book Kimberly advises not to combine fruit with anything even veggies. Here you combine them both. Why?
Hi Mary, great question! The Glowing Green Smoothie (GGS) is Kimberly’s recipe and she adds fruit to sweeten the greens. Other than a green smoothie, Kimberly recommends eating (not drinking) fruit on an empty stomach by itself for maximum digestion. So according to Kim, no more apple pie for dessert! sigh. 😉
I’ve read that you should rotate your greens. How does that work for this? This includes so many different types, I’m not sure what I should take in and out of recipe. Thanks!
Hello Meghana and WELCOME! Yes, and you bring up a great topic. You definitely want to rotate your greens, and for this recipe it’s usually leafy greens. So you would rotate the romaine and spinach with different kinds of kale, chard, dandelion, collards, broccoli, cabbage, etc. Some of these greens are a stronger flavor than spinach for example, so you may want to add sweeter fruit such as pineapple and mango. Happy Blending! xo ~Blender Babes
I can’t wait to try this! Silly question but how much is 1 head of romaine exactly?
Hi Rachel, great question not silly at all! I usually buy romaine in a 3 pack from the store so those smaller heads of romaine is good for me. If it’s a vuluptuous head of romaine from the farmer’s market for example, use half. 🙂 Hope that helps and welcome to Blender Babes!
Wonderful taste!
We love it too Margarita! It’s one of the first green smoothies we ever tried! 🙂 Please rate it for the rest of our community if you can. Happy Blending!
