BLENDTEC VS VITAMIX – HOW TO RICE CAULIFLOWER
My blending-loving tribe kept asking how to rice cauliflower in a Vitamix or Blendtec, so I decided to make this how to video and share how!
The last time I did The Blender Cleanse – I was looking for new healthy recipes to try and found a bunch of great cauliflower rice recipes.
Of course, I never want to hand grate a huge cauliflower head and I didn’t want to break out the food processor, so in true Blender Babe style I experimented with quickly chopping it in my blender instead!
At first I tried chopping using the dry chop method – adding the cauliflower florets to my blender jar and pulsing.
That left me with both large chunks and tiny pieces of cauliflower.
It wasn’t an even chop.
I did this with both Blendtec and Vitamix with the same results.
I then tried the wet chop method and was more satisfied with the even chop it provided for both Blendtec and Vitamix.
After making several cauliflower rice recipes, I found that instead of pulsing with the Blendtec, I could just blend on a low speed for a few seconds to achieve the consistency I liked.
If you haven’t made cauliflower rice in your Blendtec before though, I recommend using the PULSE feature to better control the chop.
With Vitamix it also worked best to PULSE instead of blending to be able to control the consistency.
*If you have a Vitamix model (such as the Vitamix 5200 or standard models) that does not have a PULSE feature, just set the blender to HIGH and turn the machine on and off to equal one pulse.
How to Rice Cauliflower in a Blendtec or Vitamix blender
1) Cut cauliflower into smaller pieces and place in blender jar (no more than 2/3 full)
2) Fill with water just until cauliflower lifts above the blades
3a) For Vitamix blenders – PULSE* until desired consistency is reached – usually 6-8 times.
3b) For Blendtec blenders use Speed LOW or Speed 3 for 3-4 seconds OR you can also pulse until desired consistency is reached.
4) Pour through a sieve
5) Pat dry and prepare to bake or fry it with seasonings + desired oil.

Thanks! I’d forgotten about the wet method for chopping certain foods. Glad I stopped by and joined your group. I’m gonna love being a Babe again.
Well, welcome, Sheree! Once you’re a Blender Babe, you’re always one.
I know this isn’t Juicer Babes, but I wonder if making cauliflower rice might work better in a (masticating) juicer like an Omega 8006. It will remove the liquid, leaving just the ‘rice’.. or maybe it would be more like faux mashed potatoes?
