DR. BEN KIM LONGEVITY SMOOTHIE RECIPE
Looking for an anti-aging smoothie? Interestingly, blueberries are NOT the most antioxidant-rich berry. The blackberry holds this distinction and is readily available on a seasonal basis is the star of today’s featured recipe by Dr. Ben Kim, one of our favorite celebrity recipes. He also vouches for regular intake of pomegranates as a way of strengthening urine flow where there is benign enlargement or just the beginnings of prostate dysfunction. He strongly recommends that men over 40 years of age include pomegranates in their diet whenever possible.  Include this delicious berry smoothie in diets of all ages to keep you young and healthy until old age. Try this delicious and healthy smoothie, grinding those berry seeds in a Blendtec or Vitamix or other high powered blender. Made with a milk substitute, this smoothie is vegan, creamy and delicious!

HEALTH BENEFITS OF BERRIES
Most people know that blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries are naturally abundant in antioxidants, nutrients that can neutralize excess free radicals in the body, thereby offering protection against premature disease. But few seem to realize that blackberries trump all other common berries in antioxidant content! Per 100 gram serving, blueberries contain 2.68 mmoles of antioxidants. Strawberries come in at 3.58 mmoles. And raspberries provide 2.86 mmoles of antioxidants per 100 gram serving. Blackberries come in at an average of 5.75 mmoles per 100 gram serving. That’s more than double the antioxidant content of blueberries and raspberries. (Source: Dr. Ben Kim)

  1. You can easily improve the above recipe, with no additional work, by substituting raw almonds plus water (which is all unsweetened almond milk is) for the commercial almond milk. Thus you will effectively be using fresh, pure, homemade almond milk instead of the commercial variety. The only difference is you may need to blend a little longer to break up the almonds. [Some people strain almond milk after blending to remove the very fine particles of almond meal but I’d rather leave them in, since the almond meal contains fiber and nutrients.]
