NEW DR. OZ GREEN JUICE RECIPE

The original Dr. Oz Green Juice recipe that he first shared with the world on Oprah, may have been a little too “green” for people new to green juices – so he created a new one that has more fruit to sweeten it up a bit.

We love the combination of pineapple and apple with over 5 nutritional powerhouse greens – and we think you will too.

Of course, Blender Babes kept all the fiber and made it a whole juice by using a high powered blender – but you can make it in a traditional juice extractor as well.

You too can start your day with the green breakfast juice that Dr. Oz swears by!  This green juice is super low-calorie yet rich in many essential vitamins.

Plus the lemon, lime, celery, and parsley are incredibly detoxing and cleansing.

Community member Blender Babe Kerry H asked us: Do we put the lemon, lime & orange in the Vitamix WITH their thick skins on?? I peel certain things before putting in Vitamix, generally cucumbers, oranges, lemons, limes, etc:

Our answer: Oranges have undigestible oils in the rind, so definitely peel those and keep as much of the nutritious pyth as possible.  A little zest is okay, like some recipes call for – but you don’t want to eat a lot of it.
Lemons and limes the rind is ok – however they can be hard/bitter but a Vitamix or Blendtec can handle it!
For cucumbers, the skin is the most nutritious part (we learned that from a Dr. Oz episode!! LOVE HIM!) so try to buy these organic and keep the skin or make sure to use a pesticide rinse OR soak in water with vinegar in it for 10 min. ENJOY!

HEALTH BENEFITS OF PARSLEY

Studies show that myristicin, an organic compound found in the essential oil of parsley, not only inhibits tumor formation (especially in the lungs), but also activates an enzyme which helps the molecule glutathione attach to, and fight against, oxidized molecules. Along with luteolin, the vitamin C found in parsley serves as an effective anti-inflammatory agent within the body.

When consumed regularly, they combat the onset of inflammatory disorders, such as osteoarthritis (the degeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bone) and rheumatoid arthritis (a disease causing inflammation in the joints).

Also, a mere two tablespoons of parsley have a whopping 153% of the RDA of vitamin K(Source: Health Diaries)

I wasn’t crazy about this one. Not sure if it was the parsley or the celery that I didn’t care for. I’ve loved all the other ones though!

I found this to be quite nice – I’m never too keen on herbs in smoothies but this wasn’t too overpowering

I went a little heavy with the spinach so it tasted very “green” but aside from that I’d make this again. I really liked it.

  4. Hi HeidiI I'm not sure what you mean? Your PH levels? Alkalinity? Enzymes? We recommend talking to your your physician

  5. Hello Judith and WELCOME to Blender Babes! 🙂 Thank you for pointing this out to me, I agree it is unclear. 1/4 pineapple is about 1 cup of fresh or frozen pineapple. I will update the recipe. Happy Blending & Juicing! 🙂

Hi Jeaanette, welcome. This recipe made 20 8oz cups for you? When we do the full recipe it usally makes around 7 cups give or take. We count 1 serving as 2 cups or 16oz. I will update the recipe now to reflect that, sorry for the confusion. Which blender and jar are you using?

    2. Jeanette Mason

thank you for such a fast response, blender babes; my error; i thought mehmet was recommending 4 oz as a serving; i am going to have my enzymes measured so that i dont upset the balance of vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, hormones, etc. do you drink 16 oz a day? and do you measure your internal chemistry? will look at blender; it's an oldie, but goodie……….tx again

    3. Blender Babes

You're welcome Jeanette! I (and many people who participate in the free green smoothie challenges we host throughout the year) drink between 16oz and 32oz, depending on how much I make usually 😉 If it's too much I'll freeze the rest for a morning when need to rush out the door. 🙂 I do not measure my internal chemistry other than a pH test every once in a while to make sure my body is alkaline. Hope the blender holds up, this one is a fibrous green smoothie!

    4. Jeanette Mason

well, aren't you a find…….dont usually watch oz, he is, after all, only an m.d. lol; but the universe directed me 2 his show that day & now 2 u born with underlying acidosis & began writing about it 30 yrs ago; my alkaline levels almost killed me last week; have frozen what i did not use; does the wizard know that you ladies have improved on his recipe? you could be on his show………

    5. Blender Babes

It's our DREAM to be on his show! 🙂 So sorry to hear about your acidosis, that must be scary and hard to live with. I'm sure your writing has helped other people going through the same thing. So glad you found us too! 🙂

  6. Kiko Lombardi

Carmen, I would peel the citrus fruits of the zest, but try to leave as much of the white pith as possible since there's lots of nutrition in there!

    1. Blender Babes

That’s a GREAT question Carmen! The skin of the cucumber is the most nutritious part – so definitely include and try to buy organic, but if not possible soak/wash with a water/vinegar solution. You can use the zest of lemons and limes, however for the most part they are much too bitter to include. 🙂 Hope that helps! xoxo ~Blender Babes

    2. Blender Babes

Carmen we are so sorry we didn't receive notice of your comment and apologize for the delay. We recommend peeling the citrus as Kiko says, zest is ok, however keep the skin on the cucumber it's the most nutritious part. Buy them organic if possible but if not, make sure to use a pesticide rinse or water/vinegar solution soak. 🙂
