If you’re getting started with green smoothie recipes, or you’ve already tried this beginner green smoothie, then it’s time to check out this intermediate green smoothie by raw foodist Linda Wooliever from the Vitamix recipes cookbook!
A green smoothie is when greens are blended in with a fruit.
They provide a powerhouse of nutrients that will help to satisfy your cravings as you go throughout the day.
You have probably noticed by now that as you incorporate more green smoothies into your diet, your cravings for greens have gone up while your cravings for junk have gone down!
What’s even better, is that the taste of the greens is usually hidden behind the fruit, so even the pickiest of eaters will still be fans of these healthy and yummy smoothies!
They’re so easy to make and so nutritious!

HEALTH BENEFITS & FUN FACTSÂ Â OF KALE
Kale contains beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin (a carotenoid similar to lutein), calcium, fiber, and delivers more than twice the recommended daily value of calcium.
A sulfur-containing phytonutrient in kale called sulforaphane is believed to have powerful anti-cancer, anti-diabetic and anti-microbial properties and is released when the leaves are chopped or chewed (or blended in a green smoothie!).
Kale also contains powerful antioxidants that help protect against certain cancers such as ovarian cancer.
Kale is an excellent green to use for detox smoothies as it has cleansing properties.
The nutrients in kale help protect against cataracts while promoting healthy lungs, cardiovascular health and boosts the immune system.
Kale has anti-inflammatory properties making it an excellent food for those with rheumatoid arthritis.Â
Would I use this as a meal substitute? sure, as a one-off. But pears are so sugary, I wouldn’t want to create a high threshold for my sweetness tolerance. It would also have to be a breakfast substitute because a pm or evening drink like this would probably trigger a sugar binge for me.
Pears are actually a lower sugar fruit than most Jenna, and you would probably only drink half of this (or make half!) since this recipe makes 6 cups total! I drink about 32oz of green smoothies when having as a meal replacement. As a snack I drink about 16 ounces. It depends on the ingredients. I would definitely drink about 4 cups of this for breakfast and save the rest for a snack or freeze it. It really depends what your needs are but breakfast is a good time!
I would definitely eat this. Sounds yummy
Yes, I would replace this smoothie recipe in place of a meal
This sounds delicious
Yes, I would drink this smoothie as a meal replacement….in fact I do….yum 🙂
You betcha! The pears are so naturally sweet and the bananas are filling. You won’t even notice there is healthy kale hiding in there!
Exactly! We loved this green smoothie combination of fruit with kale! 🙂
Sounds good…maybe blueberries instead of raspberries.
I would definitely make this! Very nutritious and filling
Yes! I would have this green smoothie as a meal replacement.
I haven’t tried making a green smoothie with pears yet. Looks delish!
You will love it Sharon! Adds lots of fiber without being too much sugar. Make sure those pears are ripe! 🙂
